Anton Marklund storms to second place!

Race 8 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in France

At the eighth round of the World Rallycross Championship in France, Anton Marklund tackled the rallycross world elite once again. The young Swede took second place in the Renault Mégane RS of the GCK team, which is supported by BILSTEIN.

The weekend began sluggishly for Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit’s team. Marklund and Chicherit needed some time to find their pace at their home race at the traditional Lohéac rallycross track.

In the first semi-final race Marklund qualified confidently for the final: which would have a spectacular start! Attacking from the third row, Anton Marklund stormed to second place thanks to a lightning start: after a collision between Andreas Bakkerud and Niclas Grönholm in the fight for first position, Timmy Hansen in the Peugeot 208 and Anton Marklund took the lead.

Marklund was waiting for Hansen to make a mistake. But his countryman didn’t do him that favour. The two world class drivers crossed the finish line in Brittany in first and second place. For Marklund it is the first podium finish of the season since his third place at Silverstone.
