The motorsport world looks to the Arabian Peninsula early in the year. While the 2021 Dakar Rally passes through Saudi Arabia, the Dubai 24 Hour Race (14 to 16 January) marks the start of the season for endurance racing.
The Haupt Racing Team enters Dubai as favourites for overall victory: In the iconic BILSTEIN colours, the number 4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be competing in the GT3-Pro Class. The driver line-up is top-class. Hubert Haupt and Khaled Al Qubaisi have already won the race in the desert emirate three times – most recently together as team-mates in 2020. Maro Engel, Patrick Assenheimer and Ryan Ratcliffe round off the strong driver line-up.
The return to Dubai is something very special for us: this is where our new BILSTEIN EVO RT shock absorber celebrated its successful premiere exactly two years ago – at that time still as a prototype. Today, the 5-way EVO shock absorber is fully developed. So the steam hammer with the starting number 4 is entering the race with the best material from BILSTEIN. The appearance with spectacular BILSTEIN branding is also a clear commitment of the two partners to each other: the fast GT3 officially competes under the joint name “HRT BILSTEIN”.
The number 5 Mercedes-AMG GT3 is aiming for a top result in the GT3-AM category. The HRT sister car will be driven by Florian Scholze, Valentin Pierburg, Nico Bastian and the double starters Patrick Assenheimer and Khaled Al Qubaisi.
The race in the United Arab Emirates is not only the first motorsport highlight of the still young year. The Dubai 24 Hour Race is also the biggest first endurance test that racing teams can face so early in the year. Hubert Haupt: “We want to achieve top results with both cars and get off to the best possible start in our second year of motorsport together with our partner BILSTEIN.”
HRT Team Principal Sean Paul Breslin adds: “I’m looking forward to the Dubai 24 Hour Race with great anticipation and I’m looking forward to working with BILSTEIN again. The Dubai event always has a top-class line-up, which makes the race an ideal gauge of one’s performance. Of course, I wouldn’t mind the first HRT victory in a 24-hour race.”
