Lightweight celebrates new opening – and a 428 HP world premier

A visit to BMW specialist Lightweight

Everything started with a titanium exhaust system and a BMW M3 CSL: About 15 years ago Marc Müller was unable to find any reasonable, or, to put it more accurately, light exhaust system for his lightweight M3, he simply developed his own. In 2012, the pleasant man from Hessen, Germany made his hobby into a profession and founded the company Lightweight. Nomen est omen.

In the years following, the company specialised in light Clubsport conversions developed into one of the most renowned BMW tuners around. From the start, Lightweight placed its trust in BILSTEIN – the start of a wonderful, long-term partnership.

“The first time I came into contact with BILSTEIN was when I was looking for a reasonable suspension for my M3 CSL. A very close partnership has developed over the years”, says Marc Müller.

On a sunny Saturday in May, Lightweight celebrated the opening of the new site in Hessen, Germany. The lightest and strongest BMW models now originate over a total of 600 square metres in an almost clinically clean atmosphere. Today in the spacious and brand-new showroom, Marc is welcoming his guests: satisfied customers, friends of the company and its partners. Between the showroom, workshop and the large outside area, Marc is today a much sought-after interlocutor.

But – sorry, Marc! – the real stars are still the vehicles on display: The LW M2 CSR, which was already on our stand at the Essen Motorshow 2017, and the brand-new LW M2 Cabriolet, which was put on display for the first time this Saturday.

While Lightweight implemented the engine from the BMW M4 GTS F82 on the LW M2 CSR the LW M2 Cabriolet received the current BMW M2 engine. Thanks to an optimised mapping of the engine, the Cabrio now pushes 428 HP on the rear axle. Maximum speed: 300 km/h. For both fireballs, the performance specialists from Lightweight place their trust on our BILSTEIN Clubsport suspension.

“For us it was important that we not only convert this vehicle to the M2 base visually, but also that the complete technology from the M2 is installed in the vehicle. There are already visual conversions of a F23 to M2, and that was not the challenge for us; rather, it was to completely install the dual-clutch transmissions including differential and M2 axles – that was our duty”, says Lightweight boss Marc Müller. And it was a success, just like the opening party.
