The Manifattura Automobili Torino fulfils car dreams

Suspension know-how from our BILSTEIN Service Center N.T.P. in Italy

An unadorned industrial park in Rivalta di Torino, a community with at least 20,000 inhabitants somewhat outside of the Italian car metropolis of Turin. It’s hard to believe: car dreams come true behind the inconspicuous walls of Via Valgioie. Because it is here that perhaps one of the most exciting sports car companies is located: The Manifattura Automobili Torino, or abbreviated: MAT. The Manifattura Automobili Torino has specialised in the construction, development and production of individual parts and small production runs of racing and sports cars. In doing this, the Italians surrounding Paolo Garella, the founder and CEO of MAT, have filled a relatively extraordinary niche. Because barely one company is able to provide all of this from one provider.

The Manufacture has worked together with Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus in several projects. For example, the Italians developed the SCG003S – a sports car with 800 HP and bodywork made of CFRP, for the US billionaire James Glickenhaus. Likewise, the SCG003C emerged as a very well respected race car for Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus as it achieved pole position at the 2017 24 hour race at the Nürburgring. Currently the Italians are finishing a small series of the “New Stratos”, the new interpretation of the 70s cult rally car. At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, it respectably turned visitors’ heads.

The promise of the 2014 founded company: every project is uniquely and individually tailored to the customer’s dream – the own demand and the customer’s demand are accordingly high. Just like the expectations of the development partners at MAT. Since 2015, Manifattura Automobili Torino has placed their trust in our suspension expertise. “MAT knows that we are able to build high-performance shock absorbers tailor-made to customer’s requirements”, said Jochen Trettl, Managing Director of our BILSTEIN Service Center N.T.P. in Italy. “In vehicles which have more than 600 HP and for those with a value in the millions bracket, it is naturally important to provide attractive and innovative solutions, such as our add-on module iRC, with which we are able to control the various shock absorption profiles via a smartphone. And then it is naturally, above all, about supplying an excellent suspension set-up”, Jochen is convinced.

It is evident that the collaboration between Manifattura Automobili Torino and a pivotal subject such as the suspension occurs in a tight manner. “Most of the time we already receive the drawings in the early stages of development and on this basis we are able to simultaneously carry out the measures of adaptation”, explained our suspension specialist from Bozen. “The development of the shock absorber instalments then occurs at our BILSTEIN Service Center”. MAT is highly satisfied with the collaboration: “Our requirements for our partners essentially consist of three points: Good technical support, the ability to develop custom made solutions, and the responsiveness. We really get very good support from Jochen in this regard.” For the cooperation with BILSTEIN, the value/cost ratio and “the good collaboration we had in our past projects” had also been decisive.
