BILSTEIN Clubsport M2 Competition tested at MMR Performance

We head to Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground to put a BILSTEIN Clubsport-equipped M2 Competition through its paces

MMR Performance are carving out an enviable reputation for themselves. Set up by ex-racing driver Max Marshall, the focus is on high-end upgrades that help customers take their BMWs to the next level of performance. We joined them at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground to have a look at their latest project – a BMW M2 Competition, fitted with BILSTEIN Clubsport coilovers.

Max was quick to spot the potential of the M2 Competition and has spent the last few months pushing his car to the limit to see where it can be improved. “I’ve worked with BILSTEIN for years,” he says. All of my BMWs have them fitted, including my f82 M4, my 1M and the E30 track car; there’s a BILSTEIN-equipped M3 CSL sat outside, too. When I ordered the M2, I knew it was going to get used very hard, so I went for the Clubsport package,” says Max.

Getting the Clubsports installed and dialled in has made a dramatic difference to the way this little coupe handles. They’re simple to adjust separately for both bump and rebound, and can easily be set up for your particular driving style. Turn-in is now ultra-precise and you can feel exactly what the car is doing; overall the M2 feels sharper and more focused – exactly what you want from a capable and engaging performance car. The BILSTEIN suspension upgrade means Max can now focus on other areas – like making it go faster – and there’s a lot more to come, including an ECU re-map, custom downpipes, uprated cooling system, plus hybrid turbos, which will see the BMW reach its full potential.

Watching the M2 being flung sideways around the full length of the bottom corner of the airfield, it’s clear Max enjoys what he’s doing; he executes a perfectly balanced powerslide, creating a plume of smoke as the Michelin Pilot Super Sports take another battering. Honed at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Clubsport package utilises BILSTEIN’s huge motorsport experience to provide the ultimate road car set up. Aside from the Milltek development exhaust, which has just been installed, and a carbon Eventuri intake system, the car’s currently stock, but there’s lots more to come from MMR Performance’s M2 Competition. And with the suspension fully uprated with BILSTEIN Clubsport coilovers, it’s ready to handle it. We’ll bring you another update soon.
