After the season is before the season

From 24h race to TCR – BILSTEIN grants an insider’s view into the motor sport year 2017

The current motor sport season might be just about over with some exceptions, but that does not mean that the industry will simply go into “hibernation”. Quite the contrary: In the background, the “great machine” is running at full blast so that things will be able to continue at full speed in 2017. Together with his team, Martin Flick, Head of Motorsport at BILSTEIN, is currently evaluating the results and feedbacks of the last runs and grants an insider’s view into the new motor sport year.

After the victory at the 24h race at the Nürburgring with Black Falcon BILSTEIN will of course once again be represented by numerous teams in 2017. Furthermore, the fans can of course look forward to the blue-yellow racing car on the basis of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 that will go into action with Black Falcon. “We will probably also equip a Ferrari and a Lamborghini for the 24 hours next year”, Martin Flick informs us. His tip for a last-minute Christmas present: “Even if the race will not take place until the end of May, tickets are available already.”

A 12-year partnership connects BILSTEIN with Land-Motorsport in VLN. The traditional racing team did not only win the final race in the GT3 class in 2016, but it could also secure the VLN speed trophy as the most successful team. Against this background it is considered sure that both cooperation partners will also work together again in 2017. With the already very fast Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R, BILSTEIN is also represented with a strong car at the ADAC GT Masters and would like to clearly increase the setup for the next season.

Aston Martin Racing could also take major credit in the WEC. “The GT class championship and a temporary lead in the corresponding manufacturer ranking speak for themselves”, explains Martin Flick: “We would all like to continue this winning streak and the proven technical basis with Aston Martin in the next season”. Concomitantly, there will already be a cooperation with a technology provider for a further developed setup for 2018.

In the somewhat higher LMP1 class of the WEC, BILSTEIN is represented by ByKolles Racing in the CLM P1/01 AER. The extraordinary car is not only a real spot of color in the environment of the other fast cars, but it showed in 8 out of 9 runs in 2016 that it has what it takes to win. Simon Trummer (CH), Oliver Webb (GB) and Pierre Kaffer (GER) had a strong performance in Shanghai under difficult conditions and crossed the finish line first. A technically interesting foot note: BILSTEIN is represented in this car with special aerodynamic absorbers, that are supposed to hold the car body at an ideal level in all conditions. “For 2017 we are also working on new suspension absorbers,” Flick adds.

The meanwhile very popular TCR has proven itself to be a real shooting star of the racing series. Here BILSTEIN and its MDS racing suspension system is already on board with numerous brands: for example the VW Golf or the SEAT Leon. The Audi RS3 is now another car of the Volkswagen Group to enter the race track, which is equipped with suspension technology by BILSTEIN.

Thus it can be said: That even if the old season is coming to an end, the motor sport department at BILSTEIN already has its hands full. Therefore the foot will continue to push the pedal to the metal!
