Aston Martin Racing is WEC Champion in the GT class

Winning the title with BILSTEIN suspension technology

With a victory at the season’s last race of the FIA World Championship 2016 in Bahrain on 19 November, drivers Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen achieved long-distance triumphs for GT drivers in the Aston Martin Vantage GTE with number 95 featuring BILSTEIN suspension technology. The victory in the GTE Pro Class team evaluation also went to Aston Martin Racing.

After 6:00’54.283, the race was decided. After 174 rounds, the Aston Martin Vantage GTE of Thiim and Sørensen, which features BILSTEIN suspension technology was determined as the class winner. After the nine races of this season, the drivers were 22 points ahead of the second place. The team was satisfied with the result. Nicki Thiim emphasized the importance of winning the WEC championship with Aston Martin and the good cooperation of all those involved.

On board the whole season was the modular absorber system of BILSTEIN, the renowned suspension manufacturer from Ennepetal, Germany. Suspension engineer Daniel Pitsch was on location during the season finale and stood by the team with advice and action: “For Bahrain, we refined the setup once more in detail. Because of the layout and the weather conditions, we chose an asymmetrical design. Thus, the left and right vehicle sides differed with respect to the setup.“ The result speaks for itself and once again proves the advantages of the 10-scale scalar system with click feedback for all settings, which is typical for BILSTEIN. The advantage is that teams can prepare various setups in advance and keep the number codes. The modular suspension system can then be easily adjusted to the weather conditions or the preferences of the driver.

The perfectly matched BILSTEIN suspension of the Vantage GTE as well as the motivation and performance of the drivers and the team led Aston Martin Racing to the title in the 2016 season. Encouraged by the excellent results, the team wants to build on the achievements next year and hopes for further victories and titles.
