BILSTEIN Drivers Capture Race Wins and Podium Finishes in Baja California

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Round 2 and 3 at Estero Beach in Ensenada, Mexico was the place to be for exciting short course off road racing action. BILSTEIN drivers returned from the “Battle South of the Border” with sweeping victories in Pro Buggy, a race win in Pro 4 and numerous podium finishes in Pro 2 and Pro Lite.

Off road racing is part of the Baja culture. The locals are considered “super fans” by definition and they showed up in droves full of energy to catch the action-packed short course racing; a condensed form of off road with purpose built machines designed for close door-to-door contact. The sold-out crowds were treated to a rewarding up close and interactive fan experience and highly entertaining off road racing.

The Pro 4 trucks are the premier class in the Lucas Oil Off Road Series featuring huge 900 horsepower all-wheel drive trucks. These Pro 4 vehicles are the fan favorite for many. Doug Mittag, driver of the #81 yellow and blue BILSTEIN truck finished off the weekend with an exciting race win fending off world class competition from Baja legends such as Rob MacCachren, RJ Anderson, and Kyle LeDuc.

“It was a roller coaster of a weekend for us,” admitted Doug. “It started off with a disappointing round 2 after our race was cut short due to some technical problems early in the race. Round 3 was a completely different story. It was a flawless day, starting off with qualifying 1st, winning the race after leading every lap, setting fast lap of the race and the new official track record! I couldn’t be more proud of my team! I want to give a special thanks to BILSTEIN Shocks. Their products are second to none and there track support is a HUGE part of our success!” Mittag is now second in the Pro 4 points standing.

Darren Hardesty Jr

Stand out racer and 2X Pro Buggy Champion Darren “HotSauce” Hardesty Jr. claims the beach is just a cool place to be so racing on a beach makes it that much better. He must really like the beaches in Mexico now after sweeping the weekend for Rounds 2 and 3. These latest victories give Darren the most 1st place finishes in the division for 2018 and also ranks the BILSTEIN #99 Pro Buggy 3rd in the point standings.

“Mexico definitely went pretty well for our team,” declared Darren Jr. “Especially after the first round when I got taken out and suffered a flat tire. After a lot of hard work and determination we earned our first ever weekend sweep with double wins. We tried a few different things during practice but it all came down to the usual setup and apparently a lucky duct tape shift knob after I lost the original shift knob in qualifying. We knew coming into the weekend that we had speed over the rest of the pack and let our previous misfortune motivate us to do the best we’d ever done. All in all, I’m proud of our weekend results and more importantly proud of the team effort that helped me make it happen!”

BILSTEIN shock absorber equipped vehicles continued the podium streak with Pro 2 driver Jerett Brooks earning a 2nd place finish during round 3. Ryan Beat had the Pro Lite division covered with 3rd place finish in round 2 and a 2nd place finish in round 3.
