BILSTEINers Don’t Just Build Shocks They Win With Them!

Research and Development Tech Wes Welch Wins on BILSTEIN

BILSTEIN employees don’t just make or sell shocks, they live and breathe racing, off-roading, street performance and all forms of enthusiast culture in the automotive aftermarket! Some BILSTEINers even campaign their own privateer racing programs on the very shocks they work with every day. BILSTEIN research and development’s Wes Welch is one such racer who shows how the grassroots level racer can get to the top of the podium.

The Mojave Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts (MORE) is a desert racing organization that generally hosts open desert events. In mid-July they put on a short course event for desert racers to trade paint round the track at Glen Helen; The GG lighting Freedom Cup at Glen Helen.

Welch took top honors with a 1st place that the Freedom Cup in his BILSTIEN-equipped class 9 buggy. When this success is combined with his 2nd place podium from the June McKenzie’s 300 back in June, he is the current overall points leader in the MORE racing series.

Class 9 is a limited open-wheel class that requires vehicles to run a very specific type of VW-based front and rear suspension. As a result, these vehicles are notorious for being a handful in the handling department. Finely-tuned BILSTEIN shocks help manage the swingaxle/balljoint quirks and allow Welch to hustle his 9-car around the track.
