BILSTEIN B4 Air Suspension Module

A lot of cars in the premium segment have been delivered with active air suspension for years. In the meantime, defective and worn-out air suspension modules are therefore occurring in appreciable numbers. Motor vehicle workshops have adjusted to the modern technology. However, there is still occasionally a fear of contact involved in the upkeep of air suspension modules. However, these fears are unfounded when some tips and tricks are heeded when fitting our BILSTEIN B4 air suspension modules.

Storage: Our BILSTEIN B4 air suspension module is the only air suspension in the OE-replacement segment produced in uncompromising original equipment quality. So that this remains the case, the BILSTEIN B4 air suspension modules should be stored properly. Important: Do not store the air suspension modules at temperatures below -15°C or above +50°C.

Preliminary check: Before beginning any work, check for the trouble-free status of the air suspension modules, their compatibility with the vehicle, the minimum storage date and, provided that it exists, the minimum dimension indicated in the assembly instruction.

Left-right parts: In case of air suspension modules, it involves left-right parts. Corresponding compatibility must therefore be checked before installation.

Renewal in pairs: Ensure the air suspension modules are always renewed in pairs per axle only.

Material: Pay attention to correct working material. For the installation, tools and equipment of the vehicle manufacturer are required as mandatory, as well as often another person to provide support. Power tools, such as compressed-air screwdrivers, may not be used for the installation of air suspension modules.

Assembly instructions: Keep to our assembly instructions step by step. In these instructions, every assembly step is described completely and is easily understandable. Incorrect installation can lead to irreparable damage to the new part or to the vehicle.

Sealing test: After successful installation, carry out a sealing test. The sealing of the entire system must be absolutely guaranteed.

Lowering the vehicle: An assembly error which happens again and again just when the installation is almost finished. “The vehicle must never be lowered completely to the ground by the lifting equipment with the pressure-free air suspension, otherwise the modules will be immediately destroyed,” warns BILSTEIN Workshop Manager Marco Kunert. Before lowering, if available, the lifting function of the vehicle must be activated according to availability and the pressure must have built up. “Only when the vehicle lifts itself off the lifting equipment independently can the lifting equipment be removed,” adds Marco.
